safe motorhome hire scotland Thinking of hiring a motorhome or campervan?

There are some safety issues and

UK laws that you should be aware of.

Don't be afraid to ask at the point of booking for evidence that the hire

company that you choose complies with UK law and has a vehicle

maintenance record which is up to date.

 Things to ask

1. Does the motorhome have a valid and current Gas Safety Certificate
issued by a Gas Safe Registered Engineer?

Under UK law a motorhome fitted with a
gas system and available for rent, hire or reward falls under the jurisdiction of the UK Gas Regulations and as such the hirer is treated as a Landlord and must have all appliances and related pipework inspected at least once annually and a valid certificate to this effect must be displayed in the motorhome/campervan at all times.

If a hire company cannot provide this certificate then they are breaking the

law and more importantly they are potentially putting your life at risk.

If a certificate cannot be produced ''Walk Away''.

If the unit is under 1 year old there will be a factory gas certificate in place issued by the manufacturer.

Please note that a gas safety certificate is NOT required until the motorhome/campervan is 12 months old.

(Factory certificate covers the 1st 12 months).

2. Ask for evidence of both Mechanical and Habitation services for

motorhome/Campervan.

A good hire company will also have their motorhome/campervan serviced at

recommended intervals and will also have a habitation check completed annually by a National Caravan Council Approved Workishop .

Although most people are aware of the safety implications of not maintaining braking systems, engines, steering etc, a motorhome also needs to have the area used for habitation purposes serviced also.

This
''Habitation Inspection'' ensures the safe operation of electrical systems and all other items and appliances within this area.

3. Ask to see the Insurance policy.

Good hire companies will carry adequate insurance for road use and liability.

4. Ask whether there are enough 3 point seat belts for the number of people that will occupy themotorhomes carfin lanarkshire

motorhome/campervan.

Just because a motorhome may have enough beds (for example 6 people) there is not always a matching number of seat belts.

It is illegal to carry passengers in the UK who are not wearing a seat belt.

BE SAFE ALWAYS

Good quality motorhome/campervan hire companies will always be able to

provide the above information.

If they cannot (especially issues relating to safety certification) then

''Walk Away''
